Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions from Navigators just like you.

  • We recommend a short check-in every week. It doesn’t have to be formal — even a quick chat over breakfast or in the car counts. Consistency matters more than length.

  • Keep them somewhere safe and bring them to check-ins. When your Hero completes a month, celebrate by awarding that badge together.

  • That can happen sometimes. Focus less on the tasks and more on curiosity — ask what part feels tricky or uninteresting, and explore ways to make it their own. The goal is engagement, not perfection.

  • Think of yourself as a guide, not a project manager. Offer help, ask questions, and celebrate effort — but let your Hero own the experience.

  • Start with curiosity. Ask what they learned or how it felt instead of jumping to fix it. Growth often happens through reflection, not rescue.

  • Try open-ended questions like “What surprised you?” or “What did you enjoy most?” Keep it light, and maybe chat while walking or driving.

  • They chose you for a reason! You don’t have to be an expert — you just have to care. Showing up and listening is what makes the biggest impact.

  • That’s okay. Some months are tough. Reward their effort and use the Failure Badge to remind them that falling short is part of the process, not the end of it. Failure is an important lesson to learn in our lives. It points us in the right direction and teaches us how to keep going, even when it gets hard. Through the failure badge, we want to help you facilitate these conversations with young people. Make this moment count!

  • Head to the “Ask a Question” section below. We’d love to hear from you and keep improving the experience for everyone.
